Baratang Island Tour from Port Blair

To reach Baratang Island from Port Blair, you first have to reach the Jirkatang Check Post, about 40 kilometers away, which takes about an hour by car. From there, you have to travel through the jungle through the Jarawa Reserve Forest with a police convoy and cover about 49 kilometers to reach the Middle Strait Jetty. Then, a vehicle-carrying ferry can be taken to reach the Nilampur Jetty by crossing a small canal. The ferry crossing takes about 10–15 minutes. A short drive from the Nilampur Jetty brings you to the main areas and attractions of Baratang Island. The entire journey takes about 2.5 to 3 hours and is one of the most beautiful and exciting experiences in the Andamans.

Travel by bus: The most economical way is by public bus. Buses depart from Mohanpura Bus Stand (Aberdeen Bazaar) in Port Blair, which takes you to the Middle Strait in about 2.5 hours. From here, you can reach Baratang by ferry and convoy. AC buses are also available, for a little extra comfort.

Private Cab: If comfort and time saving are the main things, then a private cab is the best. You can hire a cab from Port Blair and visit in a day. The nature and tribal environment becomes a unique experience as you pass through the Jarawa Reserve Forest.

Ferry and Convoy

You will have to cross a ferry at some point along the route. In addition, in areas inhabited by the Jarawa tribe, vehicles travel in police convoys at specific times, so it is important to be present at the appointed time.

Important Information
